re: SGA

Oh my god.

I'm writing 90% of the season off as mass hallucination, okay?

I mean, SGA has never been Shakespeare, but last season was so good, how could this season be so monumentally bad? And it's their LAST CHANCE. WHAT THE FUCK, PEOPLE. This is not going out with a bang, this is going out with a whimper. My whimper. And the whimpers of fans everywhere.

Spoilers! )

The sad thing is, just like with S3 of SPN (which I also hated, mostly), I know I'm going to buy the DVD set when it comes out. First, because I have an obsessive need to complete collections, even when I've long stopped actually being interested (see: Gravitation manga) and also, because there are about two episodes in each season that I really, really liked, and yeah, I'll buy the boxset for them, because I am a whore. But I'm waiting until the price drops to, like 15 bucks a set, because I have morals and stuff.

*re-reads entry* Wow, I need sleep.

Sigh

Still angsting about SGA. I have this weird feeling that Supernatural is going to get axed this year, too (I was shocked they were picked up for this season, honestly). Just realized that if both SPN and SGA go off the air, the only TV that I'll watch regularly will be...BRAVO reality shows.

(Speaking of Project Runway...OMG I dislike pretty much every single person on the show. Usually by this point I have favorites and OPINIONS but man, this season blows. I HATE Blayne, with an intense and fiery passion, Kieth bugs the crap out of me, Kenley needs to be slapped...blah. Terri's probably my fav, if I had to choose, with Korto a good second...Terri/Korto/Joe for the final three, I think.

It's just...there's no standout, like in seasons past. There's no real innovation or creativity, and even basic skills seem to be...lacking. Seeing some of the shit that goes down the runway makes me long for Laura...she at least understood CONSTRUCTION. There's no Laura this season, no Austin Scarlett, no Jay, no Jeffrey, no Santino. Sigh.)

So...Stargate Atlantis.

I'm slowly moving from denial to anger, down the "Your Favorite Show Just Got Canceled Steps of Grief."

My father's response? A bitter, "At least you got five seasons." (My father just finished Firefly and Serenity for the first time, and hasn't quite moved on from the bitter anger and disbelief that marks so many Firefly fans.)

*sob*

Also, I kind of hate Stargate Universe, now, and I don't know a damn thing about it. Oh, there's the anger.

So I finally got around to watching the first three episodes of season 5. My thoughts, scattered and random as they are...

Dude, I can't believe I went a month without posting!

Quick update: medication is working better, so I was able to cut back on my pain medication, so I can write and read again (yes, my trek into illiteracy was not fun), so hopefully I should be back online more.

Weird side effects of the pain medication also included crazy nausea that got way worse when I sat in front of a screen, so I have about 50 things saved up that I need to watch, including the X-files movie, the Batman movie, and the new SGA eps. Sigh.

Oh, anybody seen the X-files movie, yet? I'm a little scared...I love that show more than any other, and I need to know going in if I'm going to be totally disappointed or not.

I wrote a SGA fic this week. Not to brag, but the beginning is great, and the end is solid, and I even managed to write decently hot sex, for once. So I was feeling pretty good, until I read the whole thing over again, and realized that without even trying, I can pick out like 10 plot holes. Sigh.

Yeah, I could gut the thing and rework it, but...I'm incredibly lazy. And I just plain don't care that much. I think I'll keep it, though, and cannibalize it later. (I've got a whole folder called "The Chop Shop" where I keep fics that suck ass but have some redeeming qualities, and borrow when I need spare parts for other fics.)

So I have mad David Hewlett love and a 25$ Amazon card. I've never seen anything he's done (other than Stargate). I know there are Hewlett fans on my flist, and I'm hoping for some recs! In easy, ticky-box poll format! And even if you're not a Hewlett fan but you think the movie rocks, let me know, please.

[Poll #1148399]

Reasons why in the comments would be more appreciated than I have words for.

So I sat through an episode of Women's Murder Club because Joe Flanigan was guest starring. Um. Wow. That's an hour of my life I'll never get back. Terrible show. The acting was fine, I guess, but the writing was awful, and parts were just...icky. A little sexist, a little too much, "Let's crack (bad) jokes and talk about our love lives over this tragic, dismembered body!" (Actually, this review sums up my feelings better than I can.)

However, Joe was adorable (how could he not be?), but it seemed more like a FBI!John Sheppard AU than a different character. I've never seen him in anything else, though, so I'll refrain from making comments about his range until I check out some vintage Joe Flanigan. ;)

A few pictures... )

I might be a tich oversensitive after the last few weeks in SPN-land, but I am so so tired of being in fandoms primarily made up women that just, well, don't seem to like women all that much. And I'm not talking about just disliking a character--to each her own, right?--but the insults and double standards just make me want to pull my hair out. Since last night's SGA episode, I've been treated to more of the same, and I am done.

Cut for a little rant. Also, spoilers through SGA 4.16, heavy on 'Trio'. )

Also, I really need some SGA icons. *goes off in search*

I love being in a fandom where someone can say, without sarcasm:

My absolute favorite Christmas fic is the one with John as formerly exploited toymaker elf

Awesome.

I'm trying really hard to like Stargate SG-1. For one, my dad loves it, and it's always nice to have a show to share with him, considering that television has been our main form of bonding since, like, age 3 when I started watching Star Trek (yes, it's sad, but outside of sci-fi, we have basically no common interests). I got a bunch of episode recommendations from people and watched them, but at the end of the day, I just find it...boring. And annoying. Which is weird, because I am passionately in fandom love with SGA, and I don't know what quality that show has that SG-1 lacks. It's just weird I'm so head over heels for the spinoff when I can't stand the original. Ah, well. Not that it matters, I just think it's funny.

(Although I really like Jack/Daniel fanfic, especially when they're on Atlantis. Happily, I've watched enough SG-1--like homework--to understand the fanfic.)

In wisdom teeth news, mouth is killing me. Somehow, it hurts worse than yesterday. I kind of want to kill myself (although that's the vicodin talking, I know, vicodin makes me sooooo depressed). I am a huge baby. Though my dad did save my teeth for me, which is really cool! I haven't decided what to do with them yet.

So, again, not dead, just struggling with being sick (same old shit) and chemistry is kicking my ass. Doesn't leave me a whole lot of time for LJ.

I am a really bad lesbian, I guess. I'm just not offended by a lot of stuff that I'm told I'm supposed to be offended by. Like, the SNL gay Dumbledore sketch. I thought it was funny (a little silly, sure, but it's SNL), and it was only after I turned on the internet that I learned it was NOT FUNNY AT ALL and HORRIBLY STEREOTYPICAL and HOMOPHOBIC. Ooookay. Missed that one. My bad.

Same with the outrage over SPN. Cut for spoilers from 'Bedtime Stories' )

***

I've really gotten hooked on Stargate: Atlantis recently. The fanfic is awesome. I've resisted for a while, because I don't like Stargate SG-1 very much, and figured SGA would be more of the same. I was very pleasently suprised to find that wasn't so, and I just adore all the characters on SGA. I'm especially fond of McKay.

If you're interested, I've got a few recs here.
